Aum Golly 2: Illustrated Poems on Humanity by Artificial Intelligence

Aum Golly 2 cover

Aum Golly 2: Illustrated Poems on Humanity by Artificial Intelligence is the second collection in Jukka Aalho’s Aum Golly series. Created in a single 12-hour sprint in 2023, it combines AI-assisted writing (ChatGPT) with AI-generated visuals (Midjourney V3) to present 29 illustrated poems on human themes.

Background and creation

Aum Golly 2 was produced in 12 hours using two generative systems: ChatGPT for text and Midjourney V3 for imagery. Aalho curated the outputs, shaping poem prompts, selecting final texts, and pairing them with 23 unique color illustrations. The text, illustration, and translation work were completed within the same 12-hour session, continuing the experimental, time-boxed method introduced with Aum Golly (2021).

Content and themes

The book focuses on the human experience, challenges and triumphs of love, and the beauty and power of nature while foregrounding the dialogue between words and images. The 29 poems are “polished and visual,” with each piece designed to work both as a readable poem and as an illustrated page. The collection tests how AI’s imagery can extend or tilt a poem’s meaning when author and systems co-compose.

Sample poems

please continue this train of thought: my tongue is a barren field
my tongue is a barren field
a wasteland of desolation
where words once flourished
and ideas took root

but now, the field is empty
a vast expanse of emptiness
where the crops of language
have withered and died

please write one funny one-liner about the human experience
the human experience: a never-ending search
for the snooze button
